At Lion Heart Hospice, our volunteers are our Heartbeat.
While volunteers may not be official members of the hospice interdisciplinary care team, their contributions are essential to the emotional and mental well-being of our patients. Many volunteers are driven by personal experiences with hospice care, feeling a deep desire to give back. Others are inspired by the hospice philosophy of care and want to offer their support during patients' times of need. Lion Heart Hospice volunteers are united by a profound sense of kindness and compassion, dedicated to ensuring comfort and quality for every individual in their final stages of life.
Volunteers provide a range of services, from companionship and playing cards to reading books, organizing outings, preparing light meals, running errands, and offering transportation to appointments. Their roles extend to assisting in the hospice administrative office, where they help with answering phones, mailing, and providing clerical support.
At times, volunteers with specific skills or backgrounds are needed, such as those fluent in another language, veterans who can connect with fellow vets, fundraisers dedicated to supporting hospice initiatives, or advocates willing to speak about hospice care at health fairs and community events. Each volunteer brings unique strengths and is invaluable in enhancing the lives of our patients and their families.

Our Services

Case Management
Hospice case managers oversee the comprehensive care of patients, ensuring that every aspect of the care plan is considered. They approach the patient’s needs from a holistic perspective, being actively involved from admission through the development and implementation of the care plan, to provide the best possible support.

Social Work
While the nurses and physicians at Lion Heart Hospice attend to the patient’s medical needs, our social workers play a crucial role in supporting patients and families. They assist with major healthcare decisions, helping with advance directives, living wills, and powers of attorney, and coordinating counseling services and grief support groups.

Holistic Care
At Lion Heart Hospice, our holistic care approach ensures that every aspect of a patient's well-being is addressed. We focus on physical, emotional, and spiritual health, providing comprehensive support to enhance comfort and quality of life during the end-of-life journey.

Volunteers
While volunteers aren't formal members of the hospice interdisciplinary care team, they play a vital role in providing emotional and mental support. Many volunteers join us after experiencing hospice care personally and wish to give back.
